Cirillo Weighs in on Healthcare Staffing Challenges as Baby Boomers Near Retirement

On Saturday, Jan. 28, Crain’s Cleveland published an article on the regional healthcare staffing challenges hospitals face as baby boomers prepare for retirement. The Center for Health Affairs’ Vice President of Initiatives and Analytics, Patricia Cirillo, provided insight on the two-fold effect healthcare staffing is facing as providers retire and the aging population’s demand for care will increase.

In the article, “Nursing in Northeast Ohio is in critical condition,” Cirillo explains how the healthcare staffing shortage and challenges will affect Northeast Ohio. “As a major healthcare region, Northeast Ohio needs more high-skilled workers than other parts of the country,” Cirillo said. “A shortage in healthcare workers not only impacts our ability to take care of our own citizens; it impacts our economy, because those are outside dollars coming in.”
